Ft. Watson
British Ft. Watson, on the Santee River in the South Carolina Lowcountry, was my first experience as a principle investigator. In the summer of 1972, I was sent to explore the prehistoric mound. However, on the mound summit and around the base we had to deal with the well-preserved remains of a Revolutionary War fort. For me, this site was the tipping point. At Ft. Watson, I became an historical archaeologist.
